On the last leg of our journey to arrive at Milan Dragway, we turned off US 23 onto Plank Rd. which was just wide enough for two cars to pass. The area was surrounded by ripe corn fields soon to be harvested and patches of tall trees with the tinge of fall colours ready to take over. Upon arrival we came around a bend and there was Milan Dragway. WOW. As we waited for the gates to open on Friday afternoon, I tried to imagine what it was like here to see the hot rods back in the day ripping around the track, the stands filled with fans watching their favorites trying to set new records, all in all the weekends were a drag for many. Minutes later, 4 oclock struck and the gates opened up, and one by one they came, hot rods, gassers, funny cars, rear engine dragsters, rat rods and swap meet vendors all filling up the grounds. Sat morning, we woke up to a cloudy day with chance of showers which did happen, and shut down the racing later in the day for 1 hour, but then in the middle of the afternoon when it blew over, the temp shot up and it was all out war, car to car. Every racer made 3 passes in time trials and set their time for eliminations. It all went down quickly and was soon over with a couple of local guys winning the purse. I of course got knocked out first round by spinning the tires thru the gears and not hooking up. Ive always got a good excuse… Anyway, the car did very well running all passes in the 9.70`s ET and averaging 138 mph. The track was tight and the strip was very smooth with no bumps or dips. Grounds were well groomed and Id say a 10 out of 10 for the whole event, despite the light rain. Everyone we talked to or watched walking by had a nice look on their face. I dont think Ive ever seen so many good folks. It was a real pleasure to be in your neck of the woods. We look forward to coming here again. We would like to thank the track owner Bill Capolka for arranging the show, the staff in doing a job well done, the fans and racers for coming out, and oh, speaking of all the pretty faces, here are some for you to enjoy……. Special hello to Little Hot Rod and his Dad, I love the nickname……Dyno
