Dyno has to sit this year out…..

Wednesday, September 1st, 2010
Every day is a good day, some are better than others. 2009 was better for the racing scene than 2010,but thats the way it goes. Ive have had a big change in my life which started in the begining of the year and by the low action in the blog you must be wondering why? Ussualy Dyno has alot to say, but life has its curves and this curve threw me off the track, literally.Did you see me in the stands…LOL Dont want to get into it, but Dyno Dan is back in high gear. The car and I will be missisng from the battlefield this year and mark my words, we will be out hard next year. I know some of you will not be pleased and have not been pleased at the no show without an excuse posted, my appologies. Also partly to blame, we just rectified a major problem with the engines rocker arms, we broke vavle adjusters on the intake side from beating on her last year and couldnt get replacement parts due to Crane cams bankruptcy. Under new management, they would not make me replacements for the parts they sold me for my hard earned money. When you hear the words “sorry we cant help you” from the people you look to buy goods from to go racing, you think twice when doing another project, and believe me I have other projects. So the gifted and talented racing specialists that are associated with our racing team were able to come up with an alternative fix. We made are own adjusters, heat treated them and machined the rockers to accept larger threads. Maybe my guys should go over and show em how things are supposed to be done and get paid the big bucks for the right work done so you people dont have to get second best. I have spent many years sorting thru the quacks and now with a semi serious progam, I can face the most serious mechanical issues and have no fear of the job not being done right. Thanks to my crew chief John Rossitter of “John Rossitter Racing Engines” and Rob Barnes of “GP mechanical engineering” for a job well done. So after fixing the car we went to fire it up and it lit up like a dragon roaring. Man theres a sense of pure energy when you stand beside a high compression lumpy camshafted alcohol injected engine. A boost of excitement and a big smile on the face. So we are ready to run but will sit out the rest of the season and make our comeback in 2011.

Spring Pressure…….

Tuesday, April 20th, 2010

It aint heavy........

Well hello spring and to all you who have been patiently awaiting.  This year has been off to a slow start but things get done quickly when we bust a move. The engine in the Willys was taken apart for inspection as we run it on very high compression and with alcohol. We run 18:1 and theres alot of pressure on some parts, so a peek at the bearings, top piston rings and valve springs could not be overlooked. We noticed that the colour to the aluminum block had changed due to significantly more heat being produced and thats good. We are sneaking up on the right tune up. Means more Penguin Power. This years program is still up in the air but there are a few races that are set in stone even before the dates are out. I really look forward to mingeling with the fans as Im a people person and it makes my raceday when you all come buy and say “Hi Dyno”. I also get many wonderful replies to the articles I write and I try to do my best to keepem rolling. Some of you people even leave real funny jokes so Im going to create a Jokers section in the blog menu. Laughter is a great pain killer. So the schedule will be up shortly, fanfair draws me there. Many interested if were going to Ohio and Milan. Im going to say yes so if you see me there come and get your posters. Two kinds this year, one with the car and the other, car and hot girl. Id ask for both if I were you…LOL We did a few things this year to bring the car to a faster ET, as as years record was set at 9.68 / 142 mph. We are looking to punch out a 9.50, keeping it safe of course.. Were does the madness stop? Thats about it, ITS BEGUN……..Dyno

Krazy Rick built a Chilly Willys?

Nice Job Rick.....

Nice Job Rick.....

I wanted to show all of you who check out my blog and thankyou for doing so, as  I try to keep the site as updated as possible, but when the racing season goes cold, I have to become creative in another way to burn up some of the energy. Surfing on the web I came across Krazy Ricks Chilly Willy Gasser.  I opened up the site and low and behold was  a gallery of pictures from all sides  of the car with the 1967  green and yellow combo  war paint. I had to look at it closer, something seemed funny  and I realized it was a model.   Holy smokes!!!!! Is this ever neat. You never know whats out there until you look. He stated in his posting that we met at one of the local tracks and that he sifted thru my collection of pictures that I display and loved the paint scheme so much that he recreated a model of it. Well some of you may not know, this is the way the car looked   before the  blue paint job that we currently run.  Rick has done an amazing  job of  just that. This was Berts first year with the Willys and it had a junk yard engine for power. The purchase price of the car was $1200.00 and his wife ended up buying it  for his birthday. What a lovely gal.  Burt said he found the original sales slip the other day when he was looking through some stuff.  Anyway, the car never went  as fast as he would have liked it to, but Straus was able to keep the car very consistant and new he could win some races. Wasnt till the next year that he bought another engine which had much more power  from a well know altered called “Percy Also”  who changed his engine to a Hemi.  Heres the link to Ricks forum posting. Check it out and also another new page  I have added in the pages section to show off your hard works called “Model Builders Corner”      ………Dyno   http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/lofiversion/index.php?t13813.html

Go Back In The Day

Go Back In The Day

The famous and beautiful Milan dragway outside of Detroit Mighigan will be hosting the first ever nostalgia show and shine event on Sept 26. This one day event arleady has a large booking and should be quite the show. We are counting down the days till we get there. The Can/Am Gassers will be in full swing with a larger than nornal American gasser turn out. Deric Knowe on the Candian side who runs the “Hyper Henry” said to me earlier “We gonna have to work real hard to take them out. Theyre good racers you know.” Ya I know Deric, they beat us last event. So stay tuned and see what happens. Have you seen the latest video on the Chilly Willys in Lancaster New York? Its on YouTube courtesy of Frank Kunkel and it was a wonderful ride.  By the way its on my video page too. Enjoy  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1G4EFEGHbUM   Dyno

Imagine seeing this on the street

Imagine seeing this on the street

Last weekend we hit the Bend for one day of racing. The stars of the OSCA realy let it all hang out. Nice weather, dedicated and efficient staff members, awsome strip, clean grounds and fast cars  made it another event to plan for next year. Special thanks to Mike Bennet and Rob Barnes of the OSCA for the invitation and treating us   ”Candian Gassers” very nicely despite theyre buisy day. Many thanks.   We ran the car twice in the 1/4  mile and went 9.86/ 128 mph first pass,  (9.68/ 139 mph second pass  setting another personal record.)  P.S. dont tell the competition……Dyno
